Lancers Send 7 to Sectionals

It was a day of joy for some and finality for others as Lake Park's Wrestling Team engaged in a day of fierce wrestling at the St. Charles IHSA Regional.

Todd Raymond led his 23-7 Upstate 8 Conference Champion team into a very competitive regional. Tradional powerhouse Glenbard North appeared to be the team to beat and St. Charles East, Lake Park, Batavia, and Wheaton North thought they had a shot at the regional title.

When the wrestling was completed each of those team had scored over 100 points. In a hard fought contest, Glenbard North finished first, trailed closely by St. Charles East and Lake Park. The final team scores were:

3. Lake Park                   154.50
4. Batavia                        135.00
5. Wheaton North             110.50
6. South Elgin                    92.50
7. Geneva                          88.50
8. West Chicago                58.00
9. Bartlett                          49.00
10. St. Charles North           47.00

Lake Park will send 7 wrestlers to next week's Glenbard North IHSA Sectional. They include:

• Austin Schoen, 3rd at 112 lbs (34-9)
• Matt Adcock, 3rd at 125 lbs (31-9)
• Robert Babej, 2nd at 135 lbs (36-6)
• Chris Kowalski, 2nd at 145 lbs (33-9)
• Joe Kubica, 1st at 152 lbs (35-5)
• Farai Sewera, 3rd at 160 lbs (25-16)
• Devon Smith, 1st at 285 lbs (30-4)

Senior Mat Astacio hit a tilt with virtually no time left putting his opponent on his back with not enough time to generate needed back points to win 3rd place and qualify for the Sectional meet.

Mat ends his wrestling days at Lake Park finishing the season at 22-9. Justin Kang also ended his Lake Park career finishing 26-17. Mat, Justin, thank you for your efforts on behalf of Lake Park!
