Everyone Coaches at IHSA State
When the dual meet season is over, it is IHSA Tournament time for
It takes a group of coaches to help the wrestlers practice and keep them at their best as well as coach them throughout a multi-day tournament. This year Freshman coaches Tony Dieppa, Mike Schaffer, JV coaches Matt Gunderson and Anthony Miserendino, and Varsity coaches Pete Willis and Todd Raymond all took turns practicing with and coaching our wrestlers during the tournament.
Based on observing the tournament for many years, it is unusual for most schools to reward all their coaches with a turn in the tournament coaching chairs. Usually one only sees the varsity coaches for a school handling this task. So, to observe all of Lake Park's coahes in the matside coahing chairs is very unusual.
The IHSA tournament's main pageant is the Grand March held before the final matches. Each wrestler who has qualified for the finals is accompanied by a coach in a "lights out" spot lit march to the mats for introductions. This year Coach Pete Willis accompanied Farai Sewera during the Grand March, an honor often reserved for the Head Coach of a wrestling program.
Please join in offering a special thanks to all our wrestling coaches for the long hours and extra efforts they put forth on behalf of our wrestlers and the Lake Park Wrestling program!
